What is a Registered Dietitian (RD)?
The highest level of nutrition counseling. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but only a registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) has completed multiple layers of education and training established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Registered Dietitian (RD) credential indicates a practitioner has completed a minimum of an undergraduate degree in nutrition, 1200 hours of supervised nutrition practice, has passed a standardized national examination and completes 75+ hours of continuing education every five years.
